hippy killer garage x us versus them / pt. ii

The Hippy Killer x Us Versus Them Chopper was a big project even though it didn’t require too much helping hands involved. All that was needed for the project was close friends and family to lend their help and creativity. Other than Billy absolutely killing the paint job, I wanted to show some recognition to a couple others that were crucially involved with the build.

Kutty Noteboom is the creative force behind Hippy Killer Garage and the man who essentially built the chopper from the ground up. There is no denying Kutty’s talent. If you were to do your research on this dude, then you’ll see the real capability this guy has. He welcomed me into his work space with no problem. As I was documenting the process of this beautiful chopper being built, not once did Kutty mind that I was in his way. I would be in the garage filming, snapping pictures, and asking questions just about every other minute. I don’t know if I would have been able to do the same considering it takes a lot of patience on Kutty’s part.

Noteboom had a little break from the bike while it was being painted.

After Billy was done doing his job, the bike went into the hands of Dave Whittle. Dave is considered to be one of the greatest pinstipers in the world. The frame, fender and tank were in his control. He also had no problem with me invading his personal work space. His studio was filled with random things, ranging from restoration projects to surfboards. Please note, there is no erasing pin striping when there’s no clear coat. I witnessed something I have never seen before, which was someone striping a bike with no tape in under thirty minutes.

james (us versus them) approached me a couple of months back to document the process of his custom chopper being built. of course i wanted to, i wasn’t going to turn down an opportunity to experience something that i have been watching on T.V. (i.e. american chopper) for years. to finally witness the project in person would be an experience in itself. the chopper was on a tight deadline. i didn’t know what to expect as I stepped into kutty noteboom’s garage and saw the bare metal chopper in pieces. honestly, i didn’t see the vision of the chopper that noteboom and james had in mind until i saw it come to life while the paint process was in full effect.

billy was the man behind the spray gun. after the first coat of paint, i thought it was done. it looked beautiful, but i guess it wasn’t quite finished yet. the bike went into different phases of paint and it just got more and more weird (not in an actual weird way), just in a way i have never seen before. it’s amazing to see someone’s passion in doing what they love but what makes it even better is to see it in person. you can tell this dude billy knows what he’s doing; spraying with ease, mixing paint without taking measurements, and just experimenting with things he probably had no clue of what it was going to do or how it would turn out. but that’s the beauty of it all, taking chances.

more coverage to come…
